Génesis 2

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

1 Así quedaron terminados los cielos y la tierra, y todo lo que hay en ellos.

2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested  from all his work.

2 Al llegar el séptimo día, Dios descansó porque había terminado la obra que había emprendido.

3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

3 Y Dios bendijo el séptimo día, y lo santificó, porque en ese día descansó de todo el trabajo creadó que habia hecho.

4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

4 Ésta es la historia de la creación de los cielos y la tierra. Cuando Dios el SEÑOR hizo la tierra y los cielos,

5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth  and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth  and there was no man to work the ground,

5  y aún no había ningún arbusto del campo sobre la tierra, ni había brotado la hierba, porque Dios el SEÑOR todavía no había hecho llover sobre la tierra ni existía el hombre para que la cultivara.

6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground

  6 Pero salía de la tierra un manantial que regaba toda la superficie del suelo.

7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

7 Y Dios el SEÑOR formó al hombre del polvo de la tierra, y sopló en su nariz hálito de vida, y el hombre se convirtió en un ser viviente.

8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.

8 Dios el SEÑOR plantó un jardín al oriente del Edén, y allí puso al hombre que había formado.

9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground — trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

9 Dios el SEÑOR hizo que creciera toda clase de árboles hermosos, los cuales daban frutos buenos y apetecibles. En medio del jardín hizo crecer el árbol de la vida y también el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal.

10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.

10 Del Edén nacía un río que regaba el jardín, y que desde allí se dividía en cuatro ríos menores.

11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.

11 El primero se llamaba Pisón, y recorría toda la región de Javilá, donde había oro.

12 The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.

  12 El oro de esa región era fino, y también había allí resina muy buena y piedra de ónice.

13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.

13 El segundo se llamaba Guijón, que recorría toda la región de Cus;

14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

14 El tercero se llamaba Tigris, que corría al este de Asiria. El cuarto era el Éufrates.

15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

15 Dios el SEÑOR tomó al hombre y lo puso en el jardín del Edén para que lo trabajara y lo cuidara,

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;

16 y  Dios el SEÑOR  le dio este mandato: «Puedes comer de todos los árboles del jardín,

17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”

17 pero del árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal no deberás comer. El día que de él comas, ciertamente morirás.

18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

18 Luego Dios el SEÑOR dijo: “ No es bueno que el hombre esté solo. Voy a hacerle una ayuda adecuada. ”

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

19 Entonces Dios el SEÑOR formó de la tierra toda ave del cielo y todo animal del campo, y se los llevó al hombre para ver qué nombre les pondría. El hombre les puso nombre a todos los seres vivos, y con ese nombre se les conoce.

20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for the man no suitable helper was found.

20 Así el hombre fue poniéndoles nombre a todos los animales domésticos, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los animales del campo. Sin embargo, no se encontró entre ellos la ayuda adecuada para el hombre.

21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh.

21 Entonces Dios el SEÑOR hizo que el hombre cayera en un sueño profundo y, mientras éste dormía, le sacó una costilla y le cerró la herida.

22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

22 De la costilla que le había quitado al hombre, Dios el SEÑOR hizo una mujer y se la presentó al hombre,

23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman’, for she was taken out of man.”

23 el cual exclamó: “Ésta sí es hueso de mis huesos y carne de mi carne. Se llamará “mujer” porque del hombre fue sacada”.

24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

24 Por eso el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre, y se une a su mujer, y los dos se funden en un solo ser.

25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

25 En ese tiempo el hombre y la mujer estaban desnudos, pero ninguno de los dos sentía vergüenza.

1.In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

1.Dios, en el principio, creó los cielos y la tierra.

2.Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters

2.Ahora la tierra era sin forma y vacia, las tinieblas cubrían el abismo, y el Espíritu de Dios se movía sobre la superficie de las aguas.

3.And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

3.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que exista la luz!» Y la luz llegó a existir.

4.God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

4.Dios consideró que la luz era buena y la separó de las tinieblas.

5.God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

5.A la luz la llamó «día», y a las tinieblas, «noche». Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ese fue el primer día.

6.And God said, pLet there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.”

6.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que exista el firmamento en medio de las aguas, que separe aguas de las aguas!»
7.So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so.

7.Dios hizo el firmamento y separó las aguas que están abajo, de las aguas que están arriba.Y así sucedió

8.God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

8.Al firmamento Dios lo llamó «cielo». Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ese fue el segundo día.

9.And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so.

9.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que las aguas debajo del cielo se reúnan en un solo lugar, y que aparezca lo seco!» Y así sucedió.

10.God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

10.A lo seco Dios lo llamó «tierra», y al conjunto de aguas lo llamó «mar». Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno.

11.Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.

11.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que haya vegetación sobre la tierra; que esta produzca hierbas que den semilla, y árboles que den su fruto con semilla, todos según su especie!» Y así sucedió.

12.The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

12.La tierra produjo vegetación: hierbas que dan semilla, y árboles que dan su fruto con semilla, todos según su especie. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno.

13.And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

13.Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ese fue el tercer día.

14.And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,

14.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que haya luces en el firmamento que separen el día de la noche; que sirvan como señales de las estaciones, de los días y de los años,

15.and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.

15.y que brillen en el firmamento para iluminar la tierra!» Y sucedió así.

God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

16.Dios hizo los dos grandes astros: el astro mayor para gobernar el día, y el menor para gobernar la noche. También hizo las estrellas.

17.God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth,

17.Dios colocó en el firmamento los astros para alumbrar la tierra.

18.to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

18.Los hizo para gobernar el día y la noche, y para separar la luz de las tinieblas. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno.

19.And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

19.Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ese fue el cuarto día.

20.And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”

20.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que rebosen de seres vivientes las aguas, y que vuelen las aves sobre la tierra a lo largo del firmamento!»

21.So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

21.Y creó Dios los grandes animales marinos, y todos los seres vivientes que se mueven y pululan en las aguas y todas las aves, según su especie. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno,

22.God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”

22.Dios los bendijo con estas palabras: «Sean fructíferos y multiplíquense; llenen las aguas de los mares. ¡Que las aves se multipliquen sobre la tierra!»

And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

23.Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ese fue el quinto día.

24.And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.

24.Y dijo Dios: «¡Que produzca la tierra seres vivientes: animales domésticos, animales salvajes, y reptiles, según su especie!» Y sucedió así.

25.God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

25.Dios hizo los animales domésticos, los animales salvajes, y todos los reptiles, según su especie. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno,

26.Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

26.y dijo Dios: «Hagamos al ser humano a nuestra imagen y semejanza. Que tenga dominio sobre los peces del mar, y sobre las aves del cielo; sobre los animales domésticos, sobre los animales salvajes, y sobre todos los reptiles que se arrastran por el suelo».

27.So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

27.Y Dios creó al ser humano a su imagen; lo creó a imagen de Dios. Hombre y mujer los creó,

28.God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

28.y los bendijo con estas palabras: «Sean fructíferos y multiplíquense; llenen la tierra y sométanla; dominen a los peces del mar y a las aves del cielo, y a todos los reptiles que se arrastran por el suelo».

29.Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

29.También les dijo: «Yo les doy de la tierra todas las plantas que producen semilla y todos los árboles que dan fruto con semilla; todo esto les servirá de alimento.

30.And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

30.Y doy la hierba verde como alimento a todas las fieras de la tierra, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los seres vivientes que se arrastran por la tierra». Y así sucedió.

31.God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

31.Dios miró todo lo que había hecho, y consideró que era muy bueno. Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ese fue el sexto día.
